The superstar acts performed together for the first time in many years for a sold-out crowd at the Cowboy’s Stadium inaugural event in Dallas. Selling out in less than an hour, fans and critics proclaimed the show one hot ticket! Reba McEntire Shares ‘Blue Christmas’ With Andrea Bocelli

TheBoot.com

Friday, September 25, 2009

In her four decades as an entertainer, Reba McEntire has amassed an impressingly diverse fan base, crossing all musical genres. This holiday season, she’ll surely be embraced by another group of music lovers when she pairs up with an international superstar, opera singer Andrea Bocelli. And who else could bring an Oklahoma-born country singer and Italian-born tenor together but a King - The King to be precise. The two will collaborate on Elvis Presley’s holiday classic, ‘Blue Christmas’

The track will be included on Andrea Bocelli’s holiday-themed album, produced by David Foster, and will also be part of a PBS TV special set to air in November.

“Andrea’s a huge fan of Elvis Presley,” Reba tells the Toronto Sun. “I sat there in awe. I just loved it. [His voice] is like rich frosting on a cake—decadent. It’s so full. I stood there right beside him and just watched him. He’s a very handsome man.”

Others paired up with Bocelli for the special will include Natalie Cole, Mary J. Blige and the Muppets.

McEntire song list widens the gamut of genres she tapped

buffalonews.com

Friday, September 25, 2009

They don’t call Reba McEntire “The Queen of Country” for nothin’.

In a career spanning more than three decades, Reba has tapped into the roots of the music, helped define the line it’s walked on its way to mainstream acceptance, and sustained her relevance as its new stars top the pop charts.

With 33 No. 1 hits across 33 albums, she certainly has no shortage of material to choose from, and the set list ran the widened gamut of the genre that her career has crossed. The opening trio of “We’re So Good Together,” “The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter” and “The Fear of Being Alone” displayed how country has crossed into pop — keep the hot licks from guitar, fiddle, and steel, but flatten the rhythm, and generalize the lyrics just enough so anyone can relate.

In Reba’s case, that usually means any woman, as in the dance hall romp “I’ll Have What She’s Having,” the first song featured from her latest album, Keep On Loving You (her first for Valory/ Big Machine). The ballad “And Still” followed, with the rural Oklahoma native summoning every ounce of her emotive drawl, as rich and arresting as any country music will ever know.

Rock riffage reigned supreme on the deeply dark “The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia,” while another new tune, “Pink Guitar,” seemed destined to be sung to suburban bedroom mirrors. After the obligatory medley, an audience member presented Reba with flowers, said he’d named his daughter after her, and asked if she could sign his bicep so he could have it tattooed. She obliged with grace and demure, and when another loon rose to show a tattoo on her chest, she called them sweet and crazy in the same breath in a moment truly befitting her status as royalty.

After the schmaltzy story song “Somebody,” “Nothing to Lose” offered a slick workout for her crack nine-piece band of guitarists Jeff King and Jim Kimball, pianist Catherine Marx, fiddle/mandolin/ guitarist Jimmy Mattingly, pedal steel/dobro player Bruce Bowden, keyboardist/guitarist/band-leader Doug Sisemore, vocalist Joanna Jene, bassist Spady Brannan and drummer Tommy Harden.

New single “Strange” showcased country’s new sound — a rockin’ beat under sassy sing-speak and big bends that could easily pass for a Carrie Underwood song, while a CMT Crossroads-inspired cover of Kelly Clarkson’s “Because of You” was so convincing it earned a standing ovation.

Reba McEntire Sings the Praises of Her Peers

TheBoot.com

Thursday, September 24, 2009

When it comes to singers, it’s hard to argue that Reba McEntire is the reigning queen of modern country music. But the CMA Female Vocalist nominee is constantly being asked about which artists she thinks are among today’s best. Reba has previously told PEOPLE.com how much she admires her former duet and touring partner Kelly Clarkson, and also predicts longevity in the careers of Taylor Swift and Kellie Pickler.

And when it comes to the guys, Reba tells the Toronto Star she’s OK with fellow Oklahomans Ronnie Dunn and Blake Shelton. She also cites fellow CMA Award nominee Randy Houser, an artist whom she mentioned in that previous PEOPLE interview.

“Randy’s a great songwriter. His singing reminds me of a cross between Ronnie ... Blake ... and Con Hunley. Love it!” (For those unfamiliar with Con Hunley, from 1977 to 1986, he scored 11 Top 20 hits, including ‘You Lay a Whole Lot of Love on Me,’ later recorded by Shania Twain).

Reba has another Oklahoma resident in mind, namely Trisha Yearwood, whose voice she describes as “very smooth, with a great range that is very believable.” As for the legendary redhead’s own unique style, Reba’s been retooling her stage to direct the focus back to her singing.

“I don’t change clothes 15 times,” she says “I don’t have 10 dancers. I just get up there and sing my songs. And the people seem to like it.”

On Nov. 11, Reba will find out if CMA voters like her enough (as they have four times previously!) to crown her Female Vocalist of the Year.

Taylor Swift, Award Shows, Blue Christmas & More

wellandtribune.ca

Thursday, September 24, 2009

Kanye West, be glad Reba McEntire wasn’t at the MTV Video Music Awards.

When the rapper rudely upstaged country music cutie Taylor Swift during the televised Sept. 13 awards show, the 54-year-old country music veteran says she would have done something about it.

West grabbed the microphone out of Swift’s hand as she won best female video and declared that Beyonce had one of the best clips of the year.

“I wish I had been there!” the intense McEntire told Sun Media Wednesday in Toronto. “I would have jumped up there and said, ‘Give me that microphone! Give that back to her!’ I was totally upset.”

The redheaded Oklahoman is in Canada to promote her 12th No. 1 album, Keep On Loving You, which she’ll support with shows Thursday and Friday at Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort.

“It was (Swift’s) time to shine, her moment, and Kanye is way down here and Beyonce is way up here (in terms of my) admiration, respect.

“What Beyonce did when she won her award (later) and she called Taylor back on the stage, I thought that was huge, classy, professional. Beyonce’s mouth was wide open when Kanye pulled that fiasco. Taylor had been on SNL (previously). I’m sure, I haven’t talked to her about it, but what would have been going through my mind: ‘Is this a gag?’ ”

A frequent awards-show host, presenter and performer, McEntire said the only time she has been involved in an uncomfortable live TV moment was when she was presenting the entertainer-of-the-year trophy to Toby Keith at the ACMs while he was fueding with the Dixie Chicks.

“The official explanation was that he was on the bus (with Willie Nelson) writing songs when he was up for entertainer of the year — that’s the last place I would have been. I would have my butt in a seat waiting for that award.

“But anyway, I think Toby was mad because the Dixie Chicks had gotten to perform live via satellite and he had asked to do that and they had told him no. Oh, it was so much fun that day. Whoa, mercy, it was like juggling.”

McEntire, who has sold 55 million albums worldwide over her 32-year career, is up for two CMAs in late November for her collaboration with Brooks And Dunn, on a re-recording of their hit Cowgirls Don’t Cry. She will perform her own new song, Consider Me Gone, on the awards show.

McEntire said she’s excited, not disappointed, that Brooks and Dunn are splitting up following their 2009 greatest-hits album and 2010 tour, after 20 years as a duo.

“They’ve done everything they know to do as a duet, won every award. So I think now what I’m really anxious about and excited about is to see what they’re going to do next, separately, because they’re so creative. Surprised? No. Twenty years. The thing is to keep recreating yourself.”

McEntire, who just broke Loretta Lynn’s record for having the most No. 1 album debuts on the country music charts with Keep On Loving You, pointed out her fan base has diversified since she spent six seasons on the Reba TV series and also did Annie Get Your Gun on Broadway in 2001.

“The more different things you do, and the more fans you bring into your music, is very beneficial to the whole country music scene.”

She recently recorded Blue Christmas with opera star Andrea Bocelli at the invitation of Canadian producer David Foster, and will be on both the PBS TV special in November and Bocelli’s holiday album — along with fellow guests Natalie Cole, Mary J. Blige and The Muppets.

“Andrea’s a huge fan of Elvis Presley,” McEntire said. “I sat there in awe. I just loved it. (His voice) is like rich frosting on a cake — decadent. It’s so full. I stood there right beside him and just watched him. He’s a very handsome man.”

Reba Considers God a Great Recycler

TheBoot.com

Thursday, September 24, 2009

Reba McEntire is strong in her faith, but she says she learned most of her values by example from watching her family, and not just from growing up inside the Bible Belt. The spunky redhead even sparked some lively debate last year after declaring her belief in reincarnation, but she’s quick to credit her faith in God for getting her through some tough times.

“People said I can’t be a Christian if I believe in reincarnation,” Reba tells the Toronto Star. “But I always felt God loves us so much He’d want to recycle us and not just throw us away. Maybe I’m part Buddhist, part Christian, but you don’t have to categorize or label me. Just say that I’m a true believer in a higher power. My faith has always been very important to me. I don’t know how I would have survived in this world without it.”

Perhaps Reba’s ‘Consider Me Gone’ should end with a question mark?

Reba McEntire: Everyone’s sweetheart, nobody’s fool

thestar.com

Saturday, September 19, 2009

Say “Reba McEntire” to most people and it conjures up images of after-school snacks in a cozy kitchen: the cinnamon hair, the warm cocoa voice and that sweet, sweet smile.

She’s the lady who makes you feel good about feeling bad, and even her most hurtin’ songs have an ample dose of healing wrapped around them.

That’s what’s made her the bestselling female country artist of all time, with more than 50 million albums sold worldwide, and when the crowds come to hear her next Thursday and Friday at the Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls, they’ll get a woman they’ve known and loved for 33 years.

“My fans are very, very loyal to me and I’m loyal right back to them,” she says on the phone from her home in Beverly Hills. “They’re from all over the world, from 2 to 82, and they’re very protective of me.”

That’s her secret right there, laid on the table in the first minute of the interview: people want to take care of that down-home girl called Reba.

But talk to her for a while and you discover there’s a lot more to her than that first impression. “The first thing you gotta remember about me is that I grew up around rodeo.” Her accent bends that last word with a distinctive twang. “My daddy won the world championship for steer roping three times and the first was in 1957, when I was just 2 years old.”

Home was Chockie, Okla. (“It had a population of 18 people. I made it 19.”) And asked what it was like to grow up on the buckle of the Bible Belt, she laughs. “I never thought of it that way, you see. We lived all the way out in the country and even though we’d go to church with grandma and grandpa, we learned most of our beliefs from inside the family, by example.

“My faith has always been very important to me. I don’t know how on earth I would have survived in this world without it.”

Still, a couple of years ago, when she gave an interview in which she admitted she believed in reincarnation, the wrath of the Christian Right came down on her.

“People said I can’t be a Christian if I believe in reincarnation. But I always felt God loves us so much he’d want to recycle us and not just throw us away. Maybe I’m part Buddhist, part Christian, but you don’t have to categorize or label me. Just say that I’m a true believer in a higher power.”

Her earliest memories of childhood are happy, simple ones: “Building our home, bringing my newborn sister, Susie, home from the hospital, just singing, all of us, as we were goin’ down the road.”

Sure, there was music, but to young McEntire, “I was a rodeo and ranching kid. I had no idea of being a star in any way, shape or fashion.”

She formed a group with her brother and sister called The Singing McEntires, but in her words, “it was just something we did for fun at county fairs and things.”

Then, when she was 19 and studying to be a teacher at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, she was asked to sing “The Star Spangled Banner,” to open the National Rodeo Finals in Oklahoma City.

That particular event was broadcast on ABC’s Wide World of Sports and seen by millions of people. One of them, country star Red Steagall, was so impressed, he strong-armed McEntire out of school and down to Nashville, where she soon had a contract at Mercury Records.

“When I stepped out there that night to sing I had no idea my whole life was about to change,” insists McEntire. “I was just singing, like I had since I was a little kid.”

But those days were over and within two years, McEntire had her first single break onto the charts. It was prophetically called “I Don’t Want to be a One-Night Stand,” and in the 33 years since, her popularity has only grown.

There were some speed-bumps along the way, with diehard country devotees worrying about the “purity” of her sound as she became more mainstream and a few tongues wagging when she divorced her husband of 11 years, Charlie Battles, in 1987 and married a long-time member of her band, Narvel Blackstock, two years later.

But the one really dark night of the soul McEntire had to live through took place on March 16, 1991, and when she talks about it even now, her voice grows shaky.

“When we were on tour, we always used to fly in three planes. The band and some of the technical fellas would often fly on through the night right after we finished a concert, and the rest of us would follow the next morning.

“That night, they were going from San Diego to Ft. Wayne. Narvel got a call at two in the morning from one of our other pilots who asked him to come down to his room. When he came back, he told me that the plane had crashed.”

McEntire keeps herself together. “I asked, `They’re all right, aren’t they?’ And he told me that nobody survived. It was a horrible, horrible night.”

A total of 10 people died, including seven of McEntire’s band members and her road manager. But despite her personal devastation, she still appeared on the Oscars nine days later to sing “I’m Checkin’ Out,” the nominated song from Postcards from the Edge.

“It was my tribute to those men in the band,” she says. “None of us ever wanted to miss a show.”

McEntire’s touch has remained golden since then, with a surprise 2000 victory on Broadway in Annie Get Your Gun, replacing Bernadette Peters, and then along came Reba, her hit sitcom, which ran on TV for six seasons.

During this period, the hits kept coming, with her 2001 smash “I’m a Survivor” seeming to sum up her whole career.

Now she’s back with her music, with a new album, Keep on Loving You, and the touring show she’s bringing to Fallsview.

“I don’t change clothes 15 times. I don’t have 10 dancers. I just get up there and sing my songs,” she declares proudly. “And the people seem to like it.”

Reba McEntire back on top

Associated Press

Wednesday, September 16, 2009

Reba McEntire is in a new and strangely familiar place.

She’s on a brand new record label, Valory Music Company, and her first solo studio album in six years, “Keep On Loving You,” debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s country album charts.

McEntire is no stranger to the top spot. She’s sold more than 55 million albums and garnered 33 No. 1 hits throughout her career. She’s also no stranger to the people at Valory, including its president and CEO, Scott Borchetta. They worked together when he was a top executive at McEntire’s old label, MCA Nashville, in the 1990s.

“I know a lot of their ways of doing things,” McEntire said. “And so it was just kinda like a family reunion, getting back together again and getting to work with Scott and his team. We’re having a wonderful time.”

Borchetta also famously launched Taylor Swift’s career through Valory’s sister label, Big Machine Records. McEntire could see a collaboration with Swift in the future.

“I’d love to sing with Taylor,” said McEntire. “She’s a wonderful gal, and as young as she is, she’s got a wonderful head on her shoulders with business sense. She’s a great writer, a great performer. Boy, the sky’s the limit for Taylor.”

One thing McEntire, 54, shares on her new album is life experience. She co-wrote the song, “She’s Turning 50 Today.”

“We changed a little bit, especially on the second verse, because I wanted it to be more personal. I did have a divorce in 1987 when I left Oklahoma and came to Nashville. So, I wanted it to be a little bit more persona,” she said.

McEntire is up for two Country Music Association Awards this year — female vocalist of the year and musical event of the year for her performance with Brooks & Dunn on “Cowgirls Don’t Cry.” She retains her position as the female artist with the highest number of nominations in the 43-year history of the Country Music Association Awards with 48.

Right now, McEntire is fully committed to music, after spending the last eight years acting and doing other projects. She performed on Broadway in “Annie Get Your Gun” and starred in her self-titled TV comedy series. McEntire said going back to Broadway or television again “would be a blast,” but it would take the right script for her to do it, and that’s not something she’s actively looking for.

“Right now, I really want to focus on my music and promote this album and see what the fans think about it,” she said.

Reba Makes History with #1 Album in the US!

Reba.com

Wednesday, August 26, 2009

Superstar entertainer Reba McEntire adds another page to the history books this week as her first new solo studio album in six years – and her first on her new label The Valory Music Co. – debuts at #1 on both the Billboard Top Country AND the Top 200 Albums charts.

Keep On Loving You is Reba’s first solo studio album to reach #1 on the Billboard Top 200.  Featuring the Top 10 smash “Strange,” the album is the highest debut from a female country artist for 2009 and is the 6th overall highest country debut of the year.

With the success of Keep On Loving You, Reba now holds the record as the female artist with the most #1 albums on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart, having earned 11 #1 albums since the launch of the chart on January 11, 1964.  Reba had previously shared the title with Loretta Lynn with 10 albums.

“I have had a blast working with my new Valory Music Co. team, along with my Starstruck family, on this record,” said Reba who learned of her #1 history-making status last night, while in LA for a host of television tapings, via a phone call from label President & CEO Scott Borchetta.  “To have this success at this time of my life and career means everything to me.”

Reba’s Keep On Loving You also marks a major milestone for country music as a genre.  The album’s #1 status marks the third consecutive country album to top the Billboard Top 200 Album chart.  Reba rounds out the trio of Sugarland and George Strait whose new albums achieved #1 status in the previous two weeks. Reba’s #1 album this week marks the first time in history that three country albums have topped the Billboard Top 200 Album chart in a row.

Reba performs her new single, “Consider Me Gone,” tonight on NBC’s hit summer series “America’s Got Talent” (9-10 p.m. ET).

Billboard.com

Wednesday, August 26, 2009

It’s all about country music on top of the Billboard 200 for the third week in a row, as Reba McEntire scores her second topper on the chart. McEntire’s “Keep On Loving You” enters at No. 1 with 96,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan—her second visit to the penthouse after 2007’s star-studded “Reba Duets” set.

The country queen replaces the King of Country, as last week’s No. 1, George Strait’s “Twang,” slides to No. 2 in its second frame with 61,000 (down 61%).

McEntire is also the champ on the all-encompassing Top Comprehensive Albums chart. It houses both older and current albums (the latter are generally those that are 18 months old or less). Over on the Billboard 200 chart, only current or new albums are ranked.

Additionally, “Keep On Loving You” is McEntire’s 11th No. 1 on the Top Country Albums chart, giving her sole possession of the record for the most No. 1 Country albums among female acts. She was previously tied with Loretta Lynn.

It’s always a pleasure to speak with a superstar like Reba McEntire, a successful gal who started out riding horses, milking cows and being a ranch hand for her dad. Reba is still great, and I will tell you all about it a few weeks down the road. It’s amazing that she’s as enthusiastic about music as she was when she began. The woman is not lazy and never has been. And she loves to sing.

Keep On Loving You Billboard Album Review

Billboard

Saturday, August 01, 2009

{title}Country singer Reba McEntire doesn’t miss a beat on “Keep On Loving You,” her debut album for Valory Music. (She previously recorded for MCA Nashville for 25 years.) The first single, “Strange,” is the fastest chart climber of her career—and it’s one of several “strong women” songs on the new set. “She’s Turning 50 Today,” one of a handful of tracks that McEntire has co-written during her career, chronicles the thoughts of a woman whose husband leaves her for another. “Nothing to Lose” is a fast-pickin’ barn burner with loads of instrumental breaks, while the playful swing tune “I’ll Have What She’s Having” could only be better if McEntire was backed by Asleep at the Wheel. The least self-assured song on the new set is “Over You,” a melodic track that tells the story of a woman who sees an old lover she’s never gotten over. But things pick up on “Maggie Creek Road,” a swampy cross between “Fancy” and Steve Earle’s “Copperhead Road” that tells the tale of a pistol-packing mama’s retribution against a man who wronged her daughter.

Reba’s “Strange” Goes Top 10

Reba.com

Friday, July 17, 2009

Reba has scored her second consecutive Top 10 single of 2009, as the fastest-climbing single of her career, “Strange”, ascended to #10 on Mediabase’s Country Top 50 chart (published in Country Aircheck and USA Today) this week.

The single, from her highly anticipated Starstruck/Valory debut album Keep On Loving You (in-stores 8-18-09), follows up the Top 10 event record “Cowgirls Don’t Cry”, with Brooks & Dunn, which peaked within the Top 10 in March.

Reba was officially recognized as the biggest female hit-maker in country music history earlier this year at an awards presentation in Las Vegas. Billboard’s Wade Jessen presented the superstar an award for the most Top 10 hits by a female artist in the history of the Billboard Country charts, while Country Aircheck’s Lon Helton and Mediabase’s Robin Rhodes honored Reba as the most-played country female artist in the history of Mediabase 24/7. Reba’s “Strange” single, which is complimented by a Top 5 video on CMT and GAC, continues its chart climb this week at Country radio

This summer, The Valory Music Co. and Big Machine Records will become the first label group offering country radio a digital win-it-before-you-can-buy-it campaign in conjunction with iTunes.

Reba joins Valory’s Justin Moore and Big Machine’s Jack Ingram as the first artists taking part in this offering, bringing new excitement to the traditional album giveaways. Justin Moore/Justin Moore (August 11th), Reba/Keep On Loving You (August 18th) and Jack Ingram/Big Dreams & High Hopes (August 25th) will all be available to country radio via a website widget that will provide stations a turn-key approach to album giveaways that offers six key benefits: (1) assures local winners; (2) drives website traffic; (3) provides NTR opportunities for a station’s sales department; (4) builds up listener email addresses via opt-in on station’s custom registration page; (5) offers digital album delivery via America’s most-used and most-trusted online retailer; and (6) awards each listener registering to win the full album with an free instant download of an exclusive medley with audio commentary from the artist.

Reba signed with The Valory Music Co. in November 2008. The move reunited the multimedia entertainer with industry leader Scott Borchetta, now President & CEO of Big Machine Records and sister label The Valory Music Co.

Reba To Roll Out ‘Cowboy Dance Mix’

Reba.com | AllAboutCountry.com

Tuesday, June 30, 2009

Reba performed a new song, “I Want A Cowboy”, from her upcoming album Keep On Loving You, during her recent show at Dallas, Texas’ new Cowboys Stadium. Clearly the song was appropriate to debut at what is the new home of the Dallas Cowboys.

And now, a special version of that song will be launched next week to hundreds of Country dance clubs in anticipation of Reba’s August 18th album release.

AllAboutCountry.com asked the superstar what led her to record the song and she said, “I’m a huge fan of Katrina Elam—I love her singing and I loved her album she had out a few years back. So I was listening to the album, and was talking to my producer Tony Brown, who had co-produced Katrina’s album a few years back, and asked him if there were any plans to do anything with the song ‘I Want A Cowboy’. Tony called Katrina and asked her if she had any plans for the song, and she said ‘No, I don’t think so—why?’. He told her I wanted to record it, and she thought that would be great. So we immediately went into the studio and cut it!”

Reba McEntire to Star and Narrate “Jackson Hole to the Max”

pitchengine.com

Sunday, May 17, 2009

Summertime in Jackson is about to get more interesting, with “Jackson Hole to the Max,” a 45-minute destination movie about Jackson Hole’s natural wonders, wildlife, history and extreme lifestyles. Reba McEntire, “The Queen of Country” herself was on location just last week filming scenes for the family movie.

Reba takes viewers on a cinematic thrill-ride that will entertain people of all ages. Viewers will experience wolves, bears, bison and other wildlife in their natural habitats with “Jackson Hole to The Max’s” close-up shots and large format, ultra Surround-Sound technology. Moviegoers will ride with the West’s most outrageous lawmen and desperadoes, witness reenactments of the local Native American tribes, first white explorers, bar fights at the Historic Wort Hotel and the fabled Pony Express. There are also segments on the area’s extreme sports, dangerous avalanches and the apocalyptic super volcano that rests beneath Yellowstone National Park; as well as never-seen-before historical footage of Jackson’s early residents.

Directed by Peter Israelson of Disney Co. and IMAX Corp fame, and produced by Jackson’s own Wink Inc. - the state’s premiere production company- this “Wildest Movie in the West” is more than just entertainment, it’s “edutainment,” or educational entertainment.

“It was a totally unique project for us to work on,” remarked Wink Inc. CEO Jason Winkler. “Peter’s creative vision was amazing and Reba is the perfect host. Everyone will enjoy this film- from four to 94 years old.”

Scheduled to open Memorial Day Weekend at the newly refurbished Pink Garter Theater, the film will screen daily on the hour from 10am to 9pm through the tourism seasons.

John Hoggan Sr., a partner in the project and owner of Jackson Hole Wildlife Co., is currently refurbishing the Pink Garter lobby with interactive educational displays and dioramas. He hopes the movie will encourage visitors to leave the theater wanting to explore the valley in more depth. “So often people come to Jackson and say, ‘What is there to do? Where can we go?’ said Hoggan, who thinks movie-goers will leave the film debating what activity to start with. “We love this special place and hope to be able to share a little of that love with the visitors, and with this great town,” he said.

The project is licensed as Jackson Hole Entertainment Adventures LLC.

Reba’s “Grand” Return To The Opry Stage

TheBoot.com

Monday, May 11, 2009

The first time Reba McEntire performed on the Grand Ole Opry, Dolly Parton cut into her time on the world-famous radio show. That didn’t happen Saturday night when Reba made her first appearance on the Opry since 2000.

The country icon performed four songs, including her new single, ‘Strange.’ The audience reaction was deafening when Reba was introduced. Fans clapped and sang along as she opened with one of her classic hits, ‘Why Haven’t I Heard From You.’

“This building is very important to me,” McEntire told The Boot just prior to her performance. “On September 17, 1977, I appeared on the Grand Ole Opry for the first time. My mama and daddy and older sister Alice drove in from Oklahoma to see me because it was a dream come true for the whole family.”

She then recounted her first introduction to Dolly. “Dolly pulled up unexpectedly and took one of my songs, but I said she could have both of them if I could just meet her,” the songstress said, laughing at the memory.

Reba explains that the Opry has always held a special place with her family. “When daddy was out working the rodeo circuit, he and mama would listen to the Grand Ole Opry. This was the only place the McEntire family every came on vacation, was to Nashville and the Grand Ole Opry.”

After her performance on Saturday, Reba was presented with the Opry Member Award, commemorating her 1986 induction into the Opry family by the Opry’s Pete Fisher. The statue is a replica of the old Opry microphone with the stand made of wood taken from the Ryman Auditorium. The singer was delighted with the miniature microphone and stand.

Reba’s first album for the Valory Music Company, ‘Keep On Loving You,’ will be in stores August 18.

Reba McEntire’s new album (Keep On Loving You) promises to be ‘funky, sassy’ (Due out Aug. 18th)

Brian Mansfield, USA Today

Friday, May 01, 2009

Reba McEntire credits last year’s tour with Kelly Clarkson for changing her perspective on choosing songs for her album, due Aug. 18.

“I think that my song selections are a little more hip,” she says. “I know they’re more uptempo. They’re funky, they’re sassy, they’ve got attitude.”

McEntire recorded the still-untitled album with Tony Brown and Mark Bright, best known for his Carrie Underwood and Rascal Flatts productions.

“Tony did the country swing, the more bluegrass song, and the funkabilly I Want a Cowboy. Mark did the more contemporary songs that I think are stupendous.”

The album will include Keep on Loving You, co-written by Ronnie Dunn of Brooks & Dunn.

“They didn’t put that on their album, and I said, ‘Good Lord! Why not?’ ” McEntire says.

“I said, ‘Ronnie, if you’re not going to put that on your album, would you let me have it?’ He thought about it for a long time, then he finally said, ‘You can have it.’ “

Reba McEntire favors Kris Allen and Adam Lambert for American Idol

blogs.usatoday.com/idolchatter

Wednesday, April 22, 2009

Reba McEntire and I spoke for a few minutes the other day, and the conversation eventually turned to American Idol, as do most of my conversations of any length these days. Turns out Reba’s an Idol follower, which is no big surprise, since her husband, Narvel Blackstock, manages Kelly Clarkson.

This season, Reba’s rooting for Kris Allen and Adam Lambert.

“I think they’re stars,” she says. “They’ve got the charisma. And what’s the redheaded girl’s name? Allison. I like Allison, also.

“Those three are my favorites. I like the way they sing; I like the way they look when they are singing. It’s not just a performance. It’s coming through their eyes – that makes a huge difference to me.”

Reba’s also a fan of Kelly’s new album, All I Ever Wanted. “I am so excited about her album,” Reba says. “I think it’s a wonderful set of songs. They’re a real eclectic group of songs. She’s got a beautiful ballad, serious songs. It showcases her voice so well.”

Because Narvel manages Reba, she got to follow All I Ever Wanted through the creation process. “I heard the demos, I heard when she got through with them,” she says. “I saw the videos being pieced together and watched the edits. I just feel like a proud mama.”

Reba has a new album of her own coming out later this year and a new single, Strange, that’s currently climbing the country charts.
