‘RADIO’ ROYALTY: While Taylor Swift dominates headlines on the Billboard 200, as her “Speak Now” blasts in at No. 1, logging the largest sales week since 2005, according to Nielsen SoundScan, another country queen continues rewriting history on Country Songs.
Reba McEntire extends her mark for most top 10s among women in the survey’s almost-67-year archives, as “Turn On the Radio” rises 12-10, granting the superstar her 59th top 10. She notched her first, the No. 8-peaking “(You Lift Me) Up to Heaven,” in 1980.
“Turn On the Radio” introduces McEntire’s 26th studio album, “All the Women I Am,” due Tuesday (Nov. 9). The set includes a cover of Beyonce’s 2008 No. 3 Billboard Hot 100 hit, “If I Were a Boy.”
After McEntire spent the bulk of her career on MCA Nashville, the new album is the icon’s second on the Valory label, following “Keep On Loving You,” which topped the Billboard 200 in September 2009.
Here is a look at the women with the most top 10s since Country Songs launched the week of Jan. 8, 1944. Eddy Arnold leads all artists with 92 top 10s, followed by George Strait, with 82. (McEntire nets her latest top 10 by leap-frogging Strait’s “The Breath You Take,” which holds, bulleted, at No. 11).
